Title: Server Operations Manager

Starting Pay: Compensation commensurate with experience
Departmental Mission Statement: The Judicial Information Services (JISD) department is charged with the implementation, maintenance, update and training of technology systems in support of the Office of Court Management and all Judicial Departments, including the Probation Department. This includes network and servers connecting all judicial locations, computer hardware and peripherals, the myriad of software necessary to maintain the judicial programs, and the voice telecommunications services ranging from current phone systems to the use of newly installed video conferencing equipment. JIS is also charged with the production, deployment, training and maintenance of MassCourts (the web-based Trial Court Case Management System – CMS).
Judicial Information Services Department
Notes: This position is designated as a management position and is covered by the Trial Court Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.

Position Summary: Working within the Judicial Information Services Department (JISD) of the Office of Court Management, the Server Operations Manager has responsibility for the planning, implementation, and day to day operations related to the systems hardware and software supporting the business of the Trial Court. The Server Operations Manager supervises and directs a Server Operations Team accountable for the maintenance and operations of JISD’s Infrastructure including but not limited to servers, storage, network appliances, backup infrastructure, virtualization infrastructure, and cloud services.
Supervision Received: Receives direction from the Deputy CIO of Infrastructure.
Duties: • Manages a Server Operations Team accountable for the maintenance and operations of JISD’s Infrastructure.
• Oversees all operations related to servers, storage, network appliances, backup infrastructure, virtualization infrastructure, and cloud services.
• Mentors and develops server operations staff such that they can manage and support daily operations with minimal supervision.
• Creates and drives a culture of ownership, innovation, collaboration, and accountability
• Supports and contributes thought leadership to the development and implementation of business practices, processes, and automated tooling to enable growth and continuous improvement as part of the infrastructure leadership team.
• Collaborates closely with the Support and Applications teams to continuously improve the reliability and performance of services.
• Coordinates team projects, supervising work done by other members of the team.
• Assists in the management of key resources to ensure availability of properly functioning service.
• Follows Change and Incident Management to ensure proper communication and effective use of organizational resources.
• Assists in the recovery of systems and networks, including on-site hardware replacement when necessary.
• Develops and updates processes and contribute to ongoing Disaster Recovery efforts.
• Maintains data integrity and security in accordance with departmental and industry standards.
• Partners closely with the Information Security Team to ensure security is included by design into new services.
• Manages and supports Windows Server systems with Active Directory and Group Policy.
• Manages and supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems with Active Directory.
• Anticipates future uses of technology in the Judiciary and make appropriate recommendations.
• Collaborates closely with the Project Management Office and participate actively in the successful delivery of major technology initiatives.
• Assists in creating work orders for vendors.
• Assists in reviewing and processing vendor invoices.
• Assists with ensuring the existence and maintenance of appropriate, up-to-date documentation of JISD’s infrastructure and systems.
• Assists the Deputy CIO of Infrastructure in the development and maintenance of annual operations budget.
• Assists in selecting, specifying, evaluating, and/or implementing information technology for use across the court system or within specific departments and/or divisions.
• Drives specifications for tooling and automation that facilitates deployment, monitoring, automated remediation and decommissioning of server hardware and services; and
• Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline and 6 years of experience as an information technology professional in Systems Administration in a progressively advanced capacity or senior level in an organization of comparable size; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Advanced knowledge and skills in Infrastructure Management and Systems Administration.
• Demonstrated ability to approach job responsibilities with a focus on process improvement
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work with and lead a team with varying skills and experience.
• Ability to analyze complex issues and information relating to information technology systems and networks.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical people.
• Management or supervisory experience preferred.
